It all started in the halls of Altgeld…
History of ILSURJ
The original inspiration for ILSURJ blossomed in the warm mathematics library at Altgeld Hall. The journal is a testament to the evolving landscape of academic publishing and the commitment of the University of Illinois to fostering student research and scholarly engagement. While it may not hold the distinction of being the university’s first journal, ILSURJ stands out as a pioneering endeavor in the realm of student-led, multidisciplinary research publications.
ILSURJ is the first of its kind at the University of Illinois to develop a model that gives freedom of publication to students studying any subject. Through partnership with the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR), it has solidified itself as the official Illinois publication and will continue to enhance the prominence of undergraduate research in the coming years.
